eSIM, roaming or a local SIM? The easiest and best-value option for travel
You have three options for data while traveling. Each has pros and cons; here's a summary to help you choose.
1) International roaming on your home line
Pro: nothing to set up. Con: usually much more expensive, with limited plans and possible bill surprises.
2) A local SIM in the destination
Pro: can make sense for long stays. Con: you have to find a shop, some countries require your passport and registration, instructions are in the local language, and you have to remove your home SIM.
3) A travel eSIM
Pro: you buy and install it before you leave, data works as soon as you land, your home line stays, and you know the data and duration upfront. Con: your phone must support eSIM, and most plans are data only (some countries have plans with a number and calls).
The bottom line
For most trips (tourism, business, Umrah), an eSIM is the easiest and clearest choice. First make sure your phone supports it, then pick your destination from all destinations.
